Brackenfell at a glance

History
Brackenfell started out as a major road crossing and the township was established in 1913. The town was named after a fern that was very common in the area, the Bracken-fern. Henry George Walton purchased a section of the farm Kruispad in 1901 from Andries Brink and named the purchased section Brackenfell.

Climate 
The Northern suburbs experience winter rainfall and windy conditions, the warm summers are mild with temperatures between 25-30 degrees. Enjoy long summer nights with sunset being approximately around 8:00 pm.

Schools
There are numerous schools to choose from, whether you're looking for a private schooling facilities, government schools, home schooling or even boutique schooling options, the Northern suburbs offers it all. Bastion Primary School , Protea Heights Academy, Brackenfell Primary  Brackenfell High School , Doempieland Day care are amongst a few. 

Medical 
The Northern suburbs offer some of the finest medical facilities. The Cape Gate Mediclinic, Morgenster Mission hospital ,Brackengate Intermediate care facility and Netcare Kuils River hospital.

Shopping Malls
Some of the more popular shopping experiences in the vicinity include the Brackenfell Shopping Centre, Cape Gate ,Brackenfell South and Glengarry Village Shopping centre.

What to do in the Northern suburbs
Have some at Stodels Nursery fun for the whole family with farm animals to feed, reptile garden and have something to eat at the lovely restaurant with a playpark for the kids. Enjoy the day out with a Hot air balloon flight, or have some fun and go and play paintball at Reapers Paintball

Distance to key points 
Travel time from the central business district of Cape Town is 28 minutes and is +- 31km in distance. From the Cape Town International Airport, it is said to take +-20 minutes to travel the 26km to Brackenfell.  

Safety 
The northern suburbs have very active Community Safety Forums working closely with private security firms and local police to ensure you and your family are safe.
